There are many kind hearted people in the cruising community who have experienced first hand the plight of the Pacific Islanders living in remote locations, and long to be able to do something positive for their neighbours. Others have a yacht, but perhaps no international cruising experience, and would like to make a contribution to the welfare of mankind. Pacific Yacht Ministries relies on such people to carry out the work in the areas we operate.
As a responsible organisation, PYM need to ensure that the safety and wellbeing of all participants is highly regarded. The Board also recognise that sailing has risks involved due to severe weather, poorly charted waters, and taking on board inexperienced passengers. To minimize the risk, we have prepared a Yacht Owners Information Form which will guide skippers to the minimum standards required for the vessel and the crew. Please note that PYM can assist in obtaining appropriately experienced crew to help with ocean crossings and sailing in the local waters if necessary.
Yacht skippers and crew will need to accept the same standards of conduct as the volunteers and make application as a volunteer. Additionally, the boat will need to be inspected and approved by our boat operations officer. The basic criteria for the inspection is detailed in the Yacht Owners Information Form.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the Boat Operations Officer.
